Dynamic new learning spaces for Kellett’s second half century in Hong Kong

As we approach our 50th anniversary we are not just celebrating our past but also forging ahead with our ambitious strategic vision that will ensure Kellett remains at the forefront of educational innovation and excellence.

One area that is being prioritised as we approach our next half century is dynamic learning environments, core to providing the excellence in teaching and learning that we continually strive for.

We are therefore thrilled to announce two milestone projects - the upgrade and refurbishment of our Pok Fu Lam campus and a new Sixth Form campus. Together, these initiatives reflect our vision for dynamic learning environments - that inspire curiosity, cultivate responsibility, and celebrate the vibrant spirit of our community.

Marking this new chapter for Kellett Paul Tough, Principal & CEO, remarked, ‘Kellett continually strives for excellence in teaching and learning, and dynamic learning environments that inspire our students are vital to this. Today we are thrilled to announce two exciting developments at Kellett as we embark on our second half century.’

Echoing Paul Tough, Chair of Kellett School Association Board, Nick Marsh, commented, ‘These developments mark the next era of Kellett School as it celebrates its 50th anniversary and looks ahead to the next half century. Kellett is relentless in its pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning and these developments will ensure the School continues to give its students a love of learning and confidence for life for many years to come.’

Sixth Form Centre

In order to provide our most senior students with the very best learning environment the Sixth Form will have a dedicated, bespoke centre over two floors in The Bay Hub on Kai Cheung Road, connected by a footbridge to the KLB campus. Opening in August 2026 with capacity for 240 students, our current Year 11 and 12 students will be our first cohort to relocate to our new Sixth Form Centre.

The design of the Centre has been informed by countless university visits undertaken by our Sixth Form team. Spread over 3716m2 or 40,000ft2 the university-style facilities will include over a dozen classrooms, state of the art study areas for both independent and collaborative work, a small lecture theatre, exam rooms, Higher Education counselling rooms,  and social spaces to enable our students to thrive academically and socially.

The classrooms are designed to facilitate a variety of teaching styles, including a Harkness room for discursive humanities lessons more akin to small group tutor sessions at university, and a dedicated PE theory classroom equipped with fitness monitoring equipment.

The Centre has been thoughtfully designed to reflect the transitional nature of Sixth Form with students preparing for a move to university and another level of independence. Reflecting our location in Kowloon Bay, formerly the home to Kai Tak airport, the design speaks to the important lift-off experience Kellett Sixth Form provides into tertiary education and adulthood.

Sixth Form students will continue to stay closely connected to the KLB Campus, in particular returning for lessons and activities needing specialist facilities such as Science, Art, Music, DT, Media, as well as lunch, sports and community events.

Celebrating the announcement Mark Stacey, Head of Sixth Form remarked, ‘Having a dedicated and bespoke Sixth Form campus in such close proximity to our Senior School will ensure our Sixth Formers get the best of both – a university-style learning environment, coupled with the community and leadership opportunities that come from being part of a larger school.’

A space audit will take place in the coming months in order to assess the best use of the spaces vacated on KLB Campus by the relocation of the Sixth Form.

The new Sixth Form Centre will enable us, in the context of very strong retention and demand to steadily increase the school roll to 1620 (an increase of 60 students) by 2027, with new spaces created in years across the Senior School.

POK FU LAM (PFL) REFURBISHMENT

Fifty years on we are thrilled to announce that Kellett will embark on a major refurbishment of its first campus in Pok Fu Lam.

Carefully planned to preserve PFL's unique character and heritage, the extensive refurbishment programme will enhance a wide range of spaces, focussed, as ever, on delivering dynamic learning environments.

Head of PFL Prep School, Ben Dixon, remarked, ‘Our Pok Fu Lam campus holds dear memories for alumni spanning fifty years and so it is fitting that we upgrade it as we embark on our next half century. Carefully planned to minimise disruption to teaching, the plans will provide us with a raft of exciting and dynamic new spaces for our students to develop their love of learning.’

Enhancements are planned to the Y4 classrooms, the Early Years area, music including new soundproof practice spaces, languages including a new classroom, the library, Learning Support, the Gymnasium, as well as a new dining hall offering hot food, a new central multi-use learning space on the 3rd floor and barrier free access for those with disabilities.

Starting in Summer 2026 the work will be spread over a number of years, with the majority of the carefully planned upgrade taking place in school holidays to mitigate disruption to teaching and learning.

Celebrating the announcement Board Member and Old Kellettonian, Maddy Green, commented, ‘Kellett’s Pok Fu Lam Prep School is where the unique community spirit, that is core to Kellett School’s success and appeal, began. It is wonderful that as our community comes together to celebrate our 50th anniversary we are also embarking on a refurbishment of this beloved campus. As a parent, Governor and former student, I’m so excited to see the campus evolve its inspiring learning spaces that it’s renowned for.’
