The study of Chinese (Mandarin) begins from Reception (age 4) and is compulsory through to Year 9, reflecting the School's commitment to providing every student with purposeful learning and engagement with one of the world's most widely spoken languages and with the rich culture it carries.

Lessons are taught by qualified and experienced Chinese language teachers who bring both deep linguistic knowledge and lived cultural experience to the classroom, and who draw on a blend of traditional and contemporary pedagogy to make learning purposeful, engaging, and rigorous. 

Chinese (Mandarin) is taught through a spiralling, sequential and communicative approach. The near native Chinese curriculum covers the Chinese passages, language rhetoric knowledges and students would appreciate different genres from a variety of Chinese literacy pieces and poems to build up their reading and writing skills. The content is theme-based, age appropriate, expansive and practical. Students can opt to take additional European Languages (French and Spanish) in Senior School.
